Mr. Patrick Edward Nix, of Greenwood, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, April 23, 2019. He was 83. Pat was born March 21, 1936 in Indianapolis, a son of the late Jack Nix and Anna Mae Nix.

Pat attended George Washington High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1953. He was a proud firefighter for 47 years serving with the Indianapolis Fire Department where he worked hard and rose through the ranks and was promoted to the District 4 Battalion Chief on September 1, 1980. He served in that capacity for 20 years and ultimately retired from the Department December 15, 2005.

To say that Pat loved to golf is an understatement. He scored at least two holes-in-one over the years. He also enjoyed playing racquetball and volleyball as well as traveling to Florida with his wife to visit family. He loved his family and especially loved family dinners. Pat was a member of the Mount Auburn United Methodist Church in Greenwood.

Pat is survived by his loving wife and companion, Donna L. Nix, whom he married December 2, 1956; his children, Michael Nix (Mark DeVore) and Luann (Alan) Deese; his grandchildren, Kylie Deese and Nick Deese.

He is preceded in passing by his parents and his siblings, Dixie Armstrong, Bob Nix and Don Nix.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 8:00 pm, Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the Mortuary with Pastor Ben Greenbaum officiating. Burial will follow to Crown Hill Cemetery.

Luann &Family,
You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Our dads were the strictest in the group, but they sure knew how to love their children!

Dear Donna & family....
Linda & I are so sorry for your loss. Pat & I were best of buddies while on
the job. Being stationed together at the 7"s we shared many exciting times and also lots of fun.
He will be missed and that brightest star in the sky is Pat watching over all of you. He was a special guy and will always be remembered.
Rest well, my friend.

Donna so sorry to hear about Pat's passing, I can't help but think about the good old days at River Avenue Baptist Church, and all the fun and good times we had in the Lords name, with our good christian friends. I'm so thankful that I'll see Pat again in heaven, and we can have a good old homecoming together. May the Lord be with you and comfort you in your time of need. Ours prayers are with you always.

Donna,
We are so sorry for your loss. We grieve with you. We will always remember Pat making us feel welcome at Mt Auburn and in El Dorado when we first moved to the area. Later on he kept us feeling welcome with snappy comments and witty comebacks. Every encounter with him left us feeling loved. But boy did he ever love you! He was one of a kind and we were blessed to know him. Hugs to you our sister. Myrna and Roland

Pat was absolutely one of the nicest and most caring people on the job. I spent 37 on the IFD and there was never a time, when running into Pat, that he didn't ask about my wife, our family and the kids.

Although we were never stationed together, Pat and I did spend a lot of time on the street together where we became good friends. No matter how often we ran into each other there were always questions and comments about either my family or his. It was very obvious that FAMILY was the absolute most important thing to Pat.

It's always hard to say goodbye to a dear friend but especially one as kind and considerate as PAT!

See ya later, Old Buddy!
