Norleen Margaret “Cookie” Fort 78, of Indianapolis, Indiana went to her eternal home on May 1, 2017. She passed peacefully with her family beside her at St. Francis Hospital after suffering a heart attack. She had kidney failure as well, and was determined to avoid dialysis. Cookie was born on September 12, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Kathleen (Barnes) and Norbert Osborn. Cookie married Robert Fort on August 31, 1957. She and Robert had 5 children: Scott, Sharon (Brewer), Steve, Stan, and Stuart; plus many sons and daughters-in-law that she loved as her own.

She was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Angel (Michael), Sarah (Matt), Aaron (Ashlee), Hillary, Becca (Caleb), Alex, Stephanie (Andrew) and Hailey. She was even more blessed with 8 great- grandchildren: Carter, Landen, Alyssa, Eden, Ava, Ruah, Nolan, Amos; and brother Norbert Osborn. Cookie loved to be surrounded by her family. She wanted everyone to gather together as much as possible. Sunday dinners out were a must, as well as Thursday lunch each and every week. Everyone who knew Cookie had an unforgettable story to share about her. She made an imprint on everyone she talked to and did not know a stranger. We are rich with memories of her. Cookie was an active and opinionated member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Indianapolis for the last 60+ years. She put her heart and soul into many ministries there, and she considers many people there to be family.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Calvary Lutheran Church at 6111 Shelby Street. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m.Thursday, May 4, at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Donations can be made to Calvary Lutheran Church Endowment fund.

May the Spirit call to your remembrance Christ's triumphant affirmation: I am the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in me even though he die yet shall live. What glorious promise to claim in this time of bereavement. Our Heavenly Father uplift you with His steadfast love and care.

Scott, Sharon, Steve, Stan, and Stuart--We were friends with Cookie and Bob years ago when we all lived on Shelby in the apartments. We were all raising young children and enjoying being together when we had a chance. Cookie was, of course, very active with all of the people in the neighborhood. Other good friends at that time, in that place, were the Millers, Hal and Kathleen, and their sons. We had good times with all of us doing the usual things that young families did together. We kept in touch with your parents when we were all out of the apartments and living in different neighborhoods. We haven't been together often in the last several years, but we often bumped into each other in the local Krogers. Our deepest sympathy is sent your way in the loss of your Mom. Cookie was a wonderful person and a great friend. Best of everything to all of you.
