(Thomas) Steven Calhoun, of Trafalgar, Indiana, left this life for a far better one Saturday morning, 9 January 2021. He had been in three hospitals and four Emergency Rooms since testing positive for COVID-19 the day after Thanksgiving. He was able to stay only a handful of days at home from then to his eventual death. His family wishes to thank the dedicated staff and residents at his group home in Trafalgar who mourn his suffering and rejoice in his deliverance. Steven was born 19 September 1950 to Thomas and Margot (Weidenhammer) Calhoun of Greenwood. Happy, gentle, and loving by nature, Steven lived at his group home for over 30 years. He loved his people, including the staff caring for him and his family, and he loved going out and going to school.
Preceding him in death were his Father, Mother, and sister Virginia Pauline Calhoun. He is survived by his sister whom he called, “Sissy”, Tamera (Keith) Owens of Grand Haven, MI, his nieces, Hannah Owens of Grand Haven, MI and Emily (Nathan) Rollins along with a great-niece, Adaline of Corpus Christi, TX, and his nephew, Nathanael Owens of Grand Haven, MI. He also leaves behind a large extended family, a few special friends, and a very special cousin, Diane Calhoun, of Greenwood.
With the current pandemic, the decision was made to bury him with his beloved clock on Monday, 11 January 2021, sharing a plot with his parents in the Greenwood Cemetery. A fitting scripture that captures Steven and our hope in Jesus Christ is, Isaiah 35:4a-6a, “He (God) will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. (ESV)
