Steven Merrill Proffitt

Mr. Steven Merrill Proffitt, Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was 36. Steve was born April 2, 1983 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Steve attended Martinsville High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 2001. He was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed going to the practice range. He also loved dogs. He worked as an assistant manager for Family Dollar Stores and was of the Methodist faith. Steve was of American Indian heritage being a descendant of Menominee Indians of Wisconsin.

Steve is survived by his mother, Tammy (Donald R.) Hatfield; a brother, Michael Branham; eight uncles; four aunts; 15 cousins as well as several other family members.

He was preceded in passing by his father, Daniel M. Proffitt; a brother, John King Newton and his grandparents, Gabriel and Alicia Newton.

Services will be announced when scheduled.

Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center is handling the arrangements.
