Henry Ray Pitman Sr., 96, Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on February 15, 2021 at Southpoint Healthcare Center. He was born May 13, 1924, in Eubank, Kentucky to the late Mike Pitman and Maryaine Pitman. Henry was married to Wanda L. Pitman.
Henry worked as a maintenance supervisor at Dairy Queen for several years. He was also a male nurse for the state of Indiana at Central State. Henry was a member of Cloverleaf Baptist Church and The American Legion Post 500. Henry served as a veteran in the United States Army during World War II. While serving in the war he operated a tank in the service of General George S. Patton. He was awarded the bronze star during this time. Henry was employed at Ludlow Realty, a self-employed home renovator, and a self-employed mechanic.
Henry is survived by his wife Wanda Pitman; sons Henry (Virginia) R. Pitman Jr., Mr. & Mrs. Eddie C. Pitman, Mr. & Mrs. Dennis M. Pitman, Howard E. “Gene” (Lea Ann) Pitman; daughters Crystal (Steve) W. Abney, Kathy E. Blake, Lynn (Gary) Grimsley; stepson Jesse Hall; stepdaughter Kendra Combs; 27 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and 1 great great great grandchild. He is preceded in passing by his parents Mike and Maryaine Pitman; wives Crystal A. Pitman and Joyce A. (Groves) Pitman; and son Charles W. Pitman.
Services for Henry will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 1202 S. Lynhurst Dr. Indianapolis, Indiana 46241. Calling will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Floral Park Cemetery.
