Mr. Elbridge Justin ‘E.J.’ Haley, Jr., of Indianapolis, passed away on the early morning of Sunday, May 17, 2020. He was 78. E.J. was born November 4, 1941 in Lafayette, Tennessee, a son of the late Elbridge Justin and Sarah (Stephens) Haley, Sr.
E.J. attended Macon County High School in Lafayette and was a member of the graduating Class of 1959. He moved to Indiana shortly thereafter and was employed by U.S. Rubber Company, American Can Company and retired from A.M. General Company as an inspector.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and gardening as well as reading the newspaper. He deeply loved his family and especially his grandchildren. E.J. attended the Southwood Baptist Church.
E.J. is survived by his wife, Virginia Dell (Bray) Haley; his children, Justin (Ruth) Haley, Duane Haley and Rachel (Todd) Ancelet; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Haley, Devan Haley, Haley Ancelet and Emma Ancelet; his great-grandchildren, Mariah Haley, Eva Haley and Brayden Haley; his sister, Sandra Ford; a brother-in-law, Larry Driver, his aunt, Bea Chapman as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his siblings, Eddie Haley and Brenda Driver as well as several aunts and uncles.
Services will be conducted at 4:00pm, Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Southwood Baptist Church, 501 South 4th Avenue, Beech Grove, Indiana, with Pastor Rick Porter officiating. Burial will be at Haley Cemetery in Lafayette, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until time of service Thursday at the church.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested those be offered to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Southwood Baptist Church.
Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 1202 South Lynhurst Drive, Indianapolis, is entrusted with the arrangements.
