Doris Byrne Obituary

Doris Evelyn Byrne of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on the early morning of Friday, January 7, 2022 at the age of 74 after finding out only three weeks prior that she had a very progressive stage of lung cancer. She was at home where her family and friends were able to come and give her their last hugs before she lost her battle, and gained her heavenly wings.

Evelyn was born on April 23, 1947 in London, Kentucky to the late George and Dorothy McQueen.

Evelyn is survived by her husband, Greg Byrne, and they were married for 21 years. They loved to travel the back roads of our country. Evelyn was always looking for their next new adventure. She loved taking pictures to document their fun! They were regulars at many of their favorite local restaurants, like Lincoln Square Pancake House Geist and The Grill of McCordsville. We all looked forward to meeting them for a meal.

Her homeplace was London, Kentucky, and they traversed regularly to visit with her siblings, nieces and nephews who were very dear to her. She always had endearing stories about each one whether those from London or those that lived here.

Evelyn retired from Sunnyside Elementary School and had also worked at Kmart for 20 years.

Evelyn always saw the best in everyone! She really enjoyed all people, and she was a great encourager! She absolutely loved life, and lived it to its fullest! She’s was one of Gods most precious, loving, caring, and wonderful creations, with the absolute kindest and most gentle hearts of any person you could’ve met.

Evelyn is survived by her husband Greg Byrne; and her precious grandsons, Justin Tilford-Gaines and Braden Tilford of Indianapolis; stepdaughter Sherry Byrne (Dan) Agan; step-grandchildren, Jonathan (Aimee) Agan, Harrison (Erin) Agan, Elizabeth (David) Caudle, and Benjamin (Kati) Agan who were all dearly loved. As well as eight step-great-grandchildren that always brightened her days. Her dear siblings, Stanley (Loraine) McQueen, of Lily, Kentucky; Brenda (Wayne) Combs, Glenn (Marilyn) McQueen, Jeffery (Dianna) McQueen all of East Bernstadt; Linda (Lonnie) Herndon, Debra (Kenny) Robbins and Terry (Sonya) McQueen of London, Kentucky. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives to mourn her passing.

We all knew how much she loved each of us and we loved her! Evelyn will be deeply missed by all of us!

She was preceded in death by her son, Shawn Neil Gaines: by her parents, George and Dorothy McQueen; by her sister, Edith Conner; and by her stepchildren, James Byrne and Robert Byrne.
