Charles Edward Wright, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, November 27 at his home. He was born on March 13, 1930, in Pendleton, Indiana, to the late Omer and Nellie Biddle Wright. Charles was married Ethel Scharbrough on June 11, 1950. They were married 59 years until her death in 2009. He was employed as an engineer at Stewart-Warner for 20 years. He would later work as a machine maintenance technician for Kroger Bakery for 22 years, retiring in 1995. Charles was a member and Past Elder of Southport Heights Christian Church. He was very active in the Masonic Fraternity. He was a member of Englewood Masonic Lodge #715, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite, Greenfield York Rite, and Order of Eastern Star #483. Charles served as Worthey Patron and as Chaplain for 20 years in the Eastern Star. He has been conducting Masonic Funeral services since 1958, the year he was Worshipful Master.
Charles is survived by children Charles Wright, Jr. (Charlott), Paula Curran (Mike), Steven Wright (Diann), and Linda Young (Sidney); sisters Effie Nickels and Vera Rouse; companion Betty Rady; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Services for Charles will be Thursday, December 3, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Southport Heights Christian Church. Calling will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts be given to Southport Heights Christian Church or Englewood Masonic Lodge.
