Obituary

Carole Barr Brown, 87, died peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Grand Brook Memory Care in Greenwood, IN. Carole was born in Allentown Pennsylvania on January 25, 1936. She was the daughter of Dr. William Bryce Barr Sr., MD and Lucy Chaundy Barr, RN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Dr. William Bryce Barr Jr., MD, Dr. Gavin C. Barr MD, and sister Lucy Barr Fowler. Carole married James Carlton Brown on July 2, 1977 in Schnecksville, PA. James died on March 23, 2023, in Indianapolis. Carole is survived by her son James Stewart-Brown of Elkhart, IN, daughter-in-law Amy, and her three beloved grandsons: Acy, Colin, and Jude. 

 

Carole graduated from William Allen High School in 1953. Carole then attended Cornell University where she studied bacteriology and graduated in 1957. After graduation, she moved to New York City and began teaching chemistry at the prestigious The Collegiate School where she taught until 1977. During this time, Carole received her Master's of Science from New York University. Carole spent the next years as a stay-at-home mom and substitute teaching in Indianapolis. Carole Barr Brown was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Carole loved to travel in her younger years, especially with her best friend Molly. She also loved music and was a gifted pianist and organist. She was involved in the choir and music program at Southport Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. 

 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Southport Presbyterian Church at 11:00 AM. The family will receive visitors starting at 10:00 AM at the same location. Interment will be held at a later date in Monticello, Georgia. Memorial contributions may be made to Southport Presbyterian Church, 7525 McFarland Blvd., Indianapolis, IN 46237.
