Mr. Buell Whitaker, of Indianapolis, went home to be with the Lord on the early morning of Friday, June 5, 2020 at Franciscan Health-Indianapolis. He was 90. Buell was born December 29, 1929 in Somerset, Kentucky, a son of the late James Robert and Oma (Dugger) Whitaker.
Buell attended school in Kentucky and came with his wife and young family to Indiana in 1952. He retired from Chrysler Corporation after many years of service and had also worked for Collins Drywall Co. He was a member of Chimney Rock Baptist Church in Kentucky and had faithfully attended Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Southport until his health prevented him from doing so.
Buell was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcats fan and had been commissioned a Kentucky Colonel. He dearly loved his family and cherished the time he could spend with them.
He is survived by his children, Marlene (Gary) Wethington, Robert Whitaker and David Whitaker; his grandchildren, Amanda Bell, Mike Johnson II and Misty Wethington; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his wife of 60 years, Beulah Whitaker, whom he married May 10, 1947; a brother, Ferrell Whitaker; his sister, Faye Lawson and two infant siblings.
Services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at the Trinity Southern Baptist Church, 375 E. Southport Rd., Indianapolis with Pastor Doug Rumsey and Rev. Doyle Lakes officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service at the church.
Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 1202 South Lynhurst Drive, Indianapolis is entrusted with the arrangements.
