Robert “Bob” L. Holdeman passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018 at age 99. Born September 1, 1919, son of Harry and Sarah Holdeman, in Wakarusa, IN, Bob was a long time resident of Indianapolis. He resided in Franklin, IN at the Indiana Masonic Home for the last ten years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy C. Holdeman, his second wife, Joan (Cline) Holdeman whom he married in 2010, his parents and his brother, James (Jean) Holdeman.

He is survived by his brother, Stanley (Karen) Holdeman, Fort Wayne, IN; his sister, Ruth Kessel, Springfield, OH; his son, Kerk (Melinda) Holdeman, Franklin, IN; daughter, Kathy (Michael) Cairns, Grand Rapids, MI; granddaughters Jenny (John) Joslyn, Indianapolis; Lindsay (C.J.) Finn, Ada, MI; and Mary (Scott) Brown, Interlochen MI; seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by wife Joan’s three daughters and their extended families whose love and support he greatly appreciated.

Bob earned a degree in Pharmacy from Butler University. He enjoyed a successful career as a pharmacist and owned his own drugstore prior to his retirement. Bob always had a joke to share and his interests included gardening, woodworking, bowling, candy making, and walking. Bob was an active member of the Southport Presbyterian Church serving as the treasurer and as a deacon for many years. He continued to be a regular at the Saturday morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast through the last months of his life. In retirement, he was a tireless volunteer for many years at St. Francis Hospital and served for a time as treasurer of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary Board. A kind and generous man, a loving husband and father, he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the Southport Presbyterian Church on December 8, 2018, at 3:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Franciscan Health Auxiliary in his memory.
