In the early morning of July 22, 2012 James "Jim" Robert Canfield, 68, was taken back home to Heaven. His story began when he was born April 11th, 1944 to Leo and Thelma Barmes Canfield (who preceded him in death) grew up in North Vernon, IN with two brothers.
A few of the many things he filled his life with were serving his country in the Air Force, working in the printing trade, off roading, making stain glass objects, woodworking, serving as a member of the masonic lodge, playing cards and bingo with friends at the community he lived in with his wife.
He mostly enjoyed serving the Lord. He was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in 2009 and after his diagnosis most said for him to rest or take it easy. Not him, he kept going. For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. (I Peter 2:21) And so Jim Canfield did, he spent many, many hours of the day making sure those in need of food could be helped. His calling led him to places like Gleaners Food Bank, Midwest Food Bank, Food Rescue, Indianapolis Fruit, Walmart, Krogers bakery, USPS food drives, Second Helpings, the Outreach Home of Vineyard Community Church, and the church he attended Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene also gathered food to help. He followed in the footsteps of the lord helping those in need until he could do it no longer.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years Billie Wade Canfield, his son and daughter-in-law, James "Randy" and Angela "Angie" Canfield, son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Michelle "Missy" Long, daughter and son-in-law, Tonyia and Kevin Seibert, six grandchildren, Tara, Kyle, Blake, Anjelica, Samantha, and Josh, four great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Maddie, Asher, and Logan, and a fifth little blessing due in September.
There will be a celebration of his life on August 4th, 2012 at South Haven Village Apartments clubhouse. Located at 1542 Citrin Place. Indpls. IN 46227. It will be held from 2-6pm.
