In some lives, a few words cannot begin to measure the depth and reach that one soul had on so many. Herman was a man of God who humbly and simply cared for people with a genuine affection and the grace of Jesus, our Christ. Among the many other examples of service, Herman was a Stephen Minister and showed his caring to both his "care receivers" who were so blessed to have Herman's care, and to the rest of the group, who often came away inspired by his tireless enthusiasm for serving the Messiah. The world is brighter because of Christ's light shown through him. His heavenly home will surely rejoice as he enters. And although no one will forget the mark Herman made on each of our lives, we are thankful that his body will be now as renewed as his spirit. For Evelyn, may his freed body bring you solace as prayers for the coming days and weeks bring you strength. As for me, I count myself so blessed to have walked with him through part of his journey we call life. God-speed, Herman! And we thank God for the time He shared you with us.

Herman was the definition of "Christian servant." His encouragement and support when I worked on staff at Mt. Auburn UMC was a true gift and blessing. What the world has lost in his passing, heaven has welcomed home and is blessed. My prayers go with family and friends who both grieve and rejoice in the passing and celebration of Herman's earthly life.
